Tuesday, 10 May 6:00 am Coastal fog, chilly
I forgot what it's like being on a Military base. 6 am arrival of all the soldiers (here it's Sailors) in their PT (physical training) uniforms.
Bella and I went out for our morning walk. There is a cute little walking path at the edge of the RV park.
We are right on the golf course and the Club House is just across a green from where we are parked. I will walk over later and check it out.I'm feeling a bit frazzled. Sort of questioning what we are doing. This is a bit more stressful than I remember from before. Perhaps it's because I'm doing it by myself. I'm constantly worried that I'm not doing it right, or that I'm going to forget and break something. This time, we are not under warrantee, so if something does break it could be expensive. Yesterday I tried to drive away from the rig after unhooking with the tail gate closed. That doesn't work since the hitch is "inside" the bed. It made a horrible sound when it hit the tail gate, but thankfully I was going slow and I do not believe it did much damage to anything.
After disconnecting the truck I started hooking up all the attachments, electric, water, sewer. The sewer hose is too short. That made me think I was stupid for disconnecting the truck, as perhaps I should back the rig up so its closer to the sewer so it reaches. But. The fact is, it is situated on the spot correctly, it would be hanging out into the street. We have another piece of sewer hose, and it would reach, but I don't have an attachment. I'll have to get one today.
When I put the big slide out it seemed like it got hung up, then it made a horrible noise and seemed like it freed itself. I thought and said out loud, "oh shit". I went out side to see if anything had happened, but didn't see anything. I had checked inside to make sure nothing was in the way before I started and there was nothing there. So, I came back inside can pressed the button again to continue putting it out and it continued to go out, so I don't know. I just hope it is going to be able to come back in.
The water heater is still not working on electric, the water pressure is really low, and the toilet is leaking around the base. Hmmmm
We had taken the RV refrigerator out of here and put a regular home one in. The difference, other than the interior on this one being larger and it doesn't switch over to propane when we travel; this one does not have the little flip up bars on the shelves to keep everything in place when we travel. So, when we land and open the doors, all Rob's beers, and everything else, comes flying out at me. I'm going to have to figure out some sort of bars or something to keep things in place. I'm thinking maybe I will put shelf liners on the shelves and see if that helps.
I'm concerned about the cabinet that Lewis built. Part of it seems to be nice wood, and some of it seems to be cheap ply wood or worse. The cheap stuff, like the insert so the TV can come up, and the drawer fronts are already warping. I very concerned about the damp coastal aide and what the thing is going to look like in a couple of weeks. Not to worry about that right now though, we will just have to wait and see.
I'm not sure what I will do today. Rob won't get here until late tonight. I really don't feel like driving anywhere. So we'll see. There is some stuff here that needs to be cleaned, like some of the patio stuff we brought and some of the Windows. I will definitely do that, then I will make a plan.
I had two IEP meetings this morning. Thank goodness the internets and cell service is good.
Later: Bella and I did drive over to the BX; The water here is not very tasty and my coffee was terrible so I need to buy some water.I bought a couple rolls of shelf liner for the refrigerator and one for the silverware drawer and found a cute skort for golfing. We went back to the rig and then walked over to the golf clubhouse. The have a really cool pitching training net that I want to buy, but they have to put them into their inventory first.
We went back to the rig and I did the refrigerator shelves, silverware drawer, and all the other stuff. Rob comes in late tonight. Yippee!
Wednesday, 11 May - Port Hueneme, overcast, dreary.
Rob got in about midnight. When he got up he called Mike from West Wind. He has been taking care of all our RV repairs for the last 5 years at the Ranch. Great guy. Anyway, he told Rob to check for calcium build up in all the water faucets and that is exactly what was going on. Especially the toilet, it had bid chunks and the water was not making it into the bowl, but rater seeping around the base. All better now. He also got the water heater to work.
I had an IEP meeting which went just fine.
We drove to OJAI partly because we needed an RV parts store and just to check it out. It was sooooo nice to get out of the fog and into the warm sunshine. We got a connector for the two sewer hose, some more shelf rods (some for the refrigerator) and a storage cabinet lock. Then we went on to Ojai. We went to the visitor center to find out about some hikes. we walked around the town for a bit. I twisted my ankle in a big crack and fell, such a klutz, but not to stop us, we went on a 2.5 mile hike to a look out point. It was a nice hike. Bella really loved it.
We found a little street taco place in town, got some food and went into the park to eat.
We drove back to the base via the coastal route. It was really pretty to see the ocean.
Thursday, 12 May, Port Hueneme, cold, foggy, yucky.
No IEP meeting today, but I did work on The SEIS website for the various schools and had a chat with Kareen from North Bay.
Bella and I went for our morning walk, then the three of us walked over to the golf club house for our T-time. It was really cold. The sun peeked out once in the very beginning, for about 5 minutes, but for the rest of the time it was hiding behind the coastal fog. It seemed to get colder rather than warmer as the day went on. Bella was shivering the entire time and we even had her wrapped in a blanket. By the end we wrapped ourselves in the blanket. The funny thing was, it was colder in the cart than outside. We actually walked to get warm.
After golf we went to the commissary and the BX. Port Hueneme is a Navy is the home of the Construction Battalion also know as SEABees. Its predominately a training base. It is cute that their mascot is a Bee holding hammers, wrenches, levels, eat in its legs. They have big machinery.
Rob ran to the gym, did a workout, then ran back. During that time I did laundry.
Friday the 13th of May; Port Hueneme; cold and foggy and dreary again.
Got up, drank coffee after taking Bella for her morning walk and pee. Rob showed e a map of the Central Coastal Area and some places, including Missions we want to visit. We started putting things away in preparation for our move today but first we needed to try out our new Pitching trainer. Its a round net with a small net in the middle. You to pitch or chip the golfball into the center net,(5 points) preferred, but in the outer net counts as 1 point. We each had 10 balls and we were competing to see who could get the most points. We were both terrible. The ground really was terrible. instead of hitting the ball each time we would hits long chunks of Bermuda grass. After three rounds Rob had about 5 balls in and I had about 3. We definitely need more practice. We finished packing/stowing things, hood up and headed out to Vandenberg AFB. I must say that I am not sad about leaving this place.
It only took about 2 hours to get there. In order to get on base Rob (was driving the truck and towing the rig) had to pull into a shelter and open the door and all the compartments for inspection. The airman was cute and a nice young lady. She checked out the rig and then flagged Rob and I both onto the base.
We drove about 2 miles to the FamCamp. Its an ok place. Kinda close together and not a whole lot to offer, but it is going to be home for the next week.
