Charleston AFB, Charleston, SC and staying

It is beautiful this morning. The rain is gone, the clouds are gone and the muggy heat is gone. I forgot to mention that yesterday. When we arrived at The Trial Center yesterday and got out of the truck we got hit with this hot heavy air. It had gotten up near 70° yesterday and the humidity had gotten up that high or perhaps higher. It got a little worse before it got better. Then the storm came and blew and washed it all away.

So this morning it is sunny and clear and cooler, 57°

We got up around 7 am. I gathered the laundry and headed out to do a couple loads. We are going to go and play golf this morning since the weather is so good. It is supposed to be mostly cloudy tomorrow so we are going to go to Savannah for the day. Then it is supposed to rain again on Sat. That is when Rob has to leave. He seems to be more interested in golfing and riding bikes than exploring anyway.

I finished with the laundry I had started at about 10:15. Rob and I loaded our clubs onto our push carts and walked over to the golf course. It is about a 5 min. walk. We got right on. It was wide open with no one immediately ahead of us and no one behind us. It was a very relaxing game and a very pretty course. It was a bit soggy though because of all the rain yesterday and last night. But it was fun. Also, since we walked the whole thing I was pretty wiped out. My back, knees, and feet were competing to see which was going to completely give out first.

We finished about 2:30. We walked back to our abode. I collapsed for a bit while Rob fed the Yumster. We changed our clothes and headed down to Charleston. It is a darling town. Very Colonial South. It is great. We found the Citadel and drove through it and took pictures. Many of the troops we out on the field doing exercises. Mostly in the form of Soccer. The Citadel is a beautiful campus. We did take a bunch of pictures.

From there we went down near the water to a wonderful Seafood restaurant. It was called Hymanns. It was a really large place. I had Brad’s shrimp combo. It was delicioso. It had jumbo boiled shrimp, bar b q shrimp, shrimp scampi, fried shrimp, and Cajun shrimp. Also, it came with the Carolina Specialty which is fried grits with a cheesy sauce, and of course shrimp over the top. It was to die for. Prior to the entrĂ©e we had fried green tomatoes, which were very good and the first time either Rob or I had ever had them, and a salad. I was full right away, but mostly I think I was overwhelmed with the richness of it. Needless to say, I packed most of it up to bring home. Rob had Tilapia, Cajun style, buffalo shrimp and deviled crabs. His came with a sweet potato soufflĂ©.

From there we drove over to James Island. They have a wonderful park which is camp ground and RV park. This time of year it is the Holiday Festival of Lights. You drive through three miles of amazing lighted decorations. Then there is a walking portion and a play area with a ride or two and pictures with Santa. Also, a sweats shop, and Santa’s Attic. They also sell marshmallows on a stick and have gas fire pits where you can roast them. It was very pretty and we enjoyed it a lot.

We drove back to the base, stopped at the Shoppette for some beers and then home. We did our regular, caught up on the journal, posted them and the pictures to the blog, watched TV and to bed
