Sunday, 1 November; Pahrump, NV
I cannot believe it is November already. This year has gone by so fast. I sure hope 2021 is happier, healthier, friendlier.
We did not have a single Trick-or Treeters last night. I think they did a drive through up at the club house. With the virus they don’t want anyone touching things other people have touched or people getting to close to each other.
Rob asked me if I wanted to go for our normal walk this morning. I told him it was boring so we decided to go on a hike instead. We went up to the summit. We have done the hike up there a couple of times. It is up hill for ever. I have not been doing any sort of cardio since we have been back in Pahrump. It started up steep and it was definitely a struggle for me I had to stop several times. I was hoping it would get easier, but it didn’t. We finally hit one mile. I was having such a tough time I couldn’t even make it to 1.5 miles. I had to turn around. We only did just over 2 miles. I was really hoping for more, but couldn’t do it. I feel like such a slug. I really need to start doing more cardio type stuff to get my heart Rate up at least.
We came back home and started watching the football games. We always record the games, that way Rob can skip through all the commercials. I kept getting little text messages about the Raider score which I kept trying to ignore. I definitely had some expectations. It turned out to be really good. They played the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland. It was super windy, up to 40 mph. It was also snowing and sleeting. Yuk. They could barely make their field goals, in fact, they missed several of them. By the half it was only 6 to 6 and it was all field goals, no touch downs. Finally the Raiders scored a TD. It wasn’t until the 4 quarter and they scored another field goal as well. Final score was Raiders 16, Browns 6. Yippee.
Rob went off to go hit a bucket of golf balls. I started watching the Seahawks game. They are playing the San Francisco 49ers. At half time it was 13 to 7 Seahawks.
Rob was still gone so I turned the game off and started watching Netflix “Mindhuntes” It is pretty fascinating. I have been watching it for the past couple of days. Binge watching in fact. It is about two FBI agents who established the profile protocols for the FBI. They coined the term “serial killer” They went to various prisons and interviewed Ted Bundy; The one who killed the 7 nurses, even Charles Manson. It is pretty fascinating. The good part is that they don’t show the gory stuff. They are about figuring out why, what started them; their shared characteristics. Like I said, it is pretty interesting. I always loved psychology and criminal psychology is definitely up there. I wish I had stayed with psychology rather that going into teaching. I would have rather been a school psychologist rather than a school teacher.
Anyway, Rob came back. We finished watching the episode of Mindhunter and then watched the second half of the football game. It was a pretty good game. The Seahawks were leading The Whole way. Until the very end; then the 49rs scored and tied up the game. The Hawks couldn’t get ahead, so it went into overtime. The new rules are if the first team scores a field goal the other team gets a chance to score either a field goal or touchdown. Touchdown wins, but field goal ties and they keep going; However, if the first team scores a touchdown on first go the game is over. In this case, neither team scored after two rounds. Then, those bratty 9ers scored a field goal and that was it. The first game lost of the season. It was so sad.
60 Minutes was pretty good!
MONDAY, 2 NOVEMBER.
Our tenants at the Ranch move out so we are going to Aguanga to check on things and take out of the Rig and off the lot things that don’t need to be there or that we want here. This is the first time we have ever rented out our Rig. We have rented our lot, but never our Rig. Its like renting out your house with all your dishes linens and pantry and perishables. We had taken all our personal things out last May before they moved in. We were basically doing it for a friend. We cleaned the lot and Rig right before we left, then hired two guys in the park to clean everything again right before they moved in. The agreement for everything was. Use what you want, but replace what you use up. Hire the guys to clean again after you leave so it is clean for us. Well, it didn’t quite work that way.
Rob and I drove separately. He was in the truck towing a trailer (he had the Bar-B-Que from here in it and we needed a trailer for the Egg and bikes and stuff) I was driving my car. We have a dead zone for 75 miles between Shoshone and Baker. Right before Rob went into the dead zone he called me and told me that Ida had called him and the place was filthy and that Maria was there now cleaning. I texted Ida and asked her to take pictures for me of any damage. Well she blew up my phone with pictures. They didn’t even clean up spills or anything before they left. It was filthy. I was not happy,
I had established, what I thought was, a pretty good relationship with the parents of the kids who were renting before they moved in. They live in the park full time. After seeing the pictures I tested Sandy, the Mom, and said I was very disappointed with how they left our rig, that they didn’t even clean up their messes and that I was Sad. Well, she went off on me. She’s not the renter, they are adults, they had nothing but problems while they were there, what did I expect, they hired someone to clean, blah, blah, blah. It was really hostile. I told her I was only saying anything to her because I was told she was the one paying for the cleaning. On she went again about she’s not paying she’s merely helping out her child. She did say she went over there and collected dirty dishes and put them in the dishwasher and made sure they didn’t leave anything behind. That should have been a clue. Why was she collecting dirty dishes. Anyway, I told her I didn’t deserve her hostility and quit texting her.
When I got to our lot and Rig I was appalled. OMG! The lot was filthy. There was at least a quarter inch of dirt over EVERYTHING, counters, furniture, floor. The dishwasher was full. She had turned it on. I took a breath and went inside. All the shades were down so it was dark. When I went to put them back up, three of them were broken. I’m hoping they can be repaired rather than replaced.
The place was clean, but all three of my kitchen rugs and the rug for in front of the shower were missing. Turned out they were so filthy from the dog that they had to be thrown away. There were no paper towels or napkins inside or out. No zip locks or Saran, all of Rob’s lump charcoal for the Green Egg was used up and not replaced. In fact, nothing that had been used up had been replaced. They didn’t want to pay what we did for cleaning, so they did not use the guys we used. They inside was so filthy when Maria got there that she said no way was she going to do the inside and out side for that amount. So, Rob and I had to clean it. So very disappointing.
Sandy had scolded me about all the problems the kids had with the golf cart. We replaced all the batteries (very expensive), all 4 tires, and had to have the broken axel fixed. Rob is so kind hearted, he just said “we’ve had it for 4 years, it’s worn out”. Well come to find out (from both our neighbors and several other people in the park) Tony drove our cart like a bat out of hell. He didn’t take care of the batteries even though we showed him how to keep them filled. He popped a tire so we figured they were worn and replaced all of them. Axels don’t break on their own, he hit something good and hard. We had the back step on the cart and braces for the golf bag rack replace before we left. We have to do it again. That is from going over speed bumps fast and bouncing the bags. It stopped being an issue for us when they cut the center out of the bumps and when we realized what we were doing and slowed down. She had commented that they never asked for an adjust menu to the rent for all this; well, we never asked for reimbursement for damages either. Oh well, Let it go!
So we did have a fun time at the Ranch.
Tuesday eve we got together for dinner with Bill and Sue VanHoosan at their place to watch the election results. I made spaghetti. Another, nice couple, were there as well. We had dinner and watched some of the tallies, but it was quite clear that we would not find out who the President would be tonight. So rather than stay and watch and be frustrated, we went home. We watched a movie and went to bed.
WEDNESDAY
I took my car down to the Lexus dealership in Escondido for service. They gave me a loaner so I went to Costco and Walmart while I was there. I figured it wouldn’t take to terribly long, it was just regular maintenance and they were going to check out my radio to see why it keeps shutting off. They were doing some sort of training, so I didn’t get to meet the person I had the appointment with and she never called me to let me know how long it was going to take.
I went back to the dealership and hung out on the patio. I had a Pepsi, and then after awhile a bite to eat. My appointment was at 10 am and it was now 2 pm. So, I went downstairs to find out if my car was ready yet. They said no and it probably wouldn’t be ready until tomorrow. Well shoot, I would have gone home two hours ago.
I drove home and got busy sorting things and packing things up. That night we had dinner with Debbie and Bruce at Misty’s (our resort cafe). We talked about boats of course. They are going to sell their new Ranger Tug and get a 47’ Selene. They are beautiful boats. They are the couple who first told us about the Great Loop and they are the ones who introduced us to our new friends in Pahrump.
THURSDAY
More packing and cleaning, and then Rob and I went into town for Dermatology appointments. Rob goes every 6 months or so. His father died from skin cancer that spread throughout his body and so he is very serious about getting checked. He had a couple spots on his ears and face burned. I had a mole on my back, that I couldn’t see or course, but didn’t like the way it felt and Rob said to get it checked, so that was why I was there. The mole was fine and he burned it (actually froze it, but it feels like it’s being burned because it is) He also did a spot on my chest and under one arm. I had a re on my elbow that I continue to bump and it never wants to go away. He did not like it at all and said he was going to cut it off and send it out for a biopsy. So he did.
Pam and Craig arrived. She is quite devastated. They had to put Shelby, one of their dogs down last week. She developed some sort of brain infection and did not respond to any medication. She kept getting worse until they finally had to take care of her misery. She was young, would have been 3 years old next month. Of the three of their dogs, she was my favorite. She was very sweet. Marley is adorable, but that’s mainly because she is a long-hair doxy puppy, just a year old. But Shelby was a sweetheart. I miss her.
After our appointments we drove down to Escondito. We wet for two reasons. To pick up my car and to get together for dinner with Jack and Colleen. Nothing quite turned out as planned. My car still wasn’t ready and Colleen was stuck at home babysitting the grand kids and was never able to join us for dinner. Darn. Miss her. We did have a nice visit with Jack.
FRIDAY
Our last push to get everything done, packed and cleaned. Ida came over. She is going to handle rental for us. She will find people, vet them and make sure they keep the place clean and undamaged. Since she is going to manage it we are going to rent out the lot and rig again. We would really like to rent it out just enough to pay the HOA dues and to keep people from wandering around on our lot while we are gone.
I drove down to Escondito again. Three days in a row. This time I was able to pick up my car. They never did find out what was wrong with my radio, but I told them I didn’t care, I was going back to Nevada tomorrow and needed my car back.
We had dinner at Craig and Pam’s with Jack and Jill and Collin. It was nice getting together with all of them. Another couple came by after dinner. They live across the way from us and I can never remember their names. They are a nice couple tho. It was a fun evening. Jack is so animated. He is going to try to repair our shades for us. I hope he can so that they don’t have to be replaced.
We pulled all the outdoor cushions in, covered all the furniture and strapped a tarp down on the trailer over all our stuff. It is supposed to start raining tonight and the snow level is supposed to be pretty low tonight and tomorrow. We want to get out of here before all that happens.
SATURDAY
I finished sorting and packing. Rob loaded the rest of everything in either the truck or my trunk. We said good bye to Pam and Craig and then Rob left. I had to wait for the towels in the dryer and while that was happening, finish cleaning the inside of the Rig to include vacuuming and trying to get some stains out of the carpet. I don’t think I was very successful at that.
While we were packing up my phone started blowing up. Texts from Sarah and Anne and Katy and Nancy. It turned out that several news sources had declared Biden the winner of the Presidential Election. Thank God. Trump, of course, is filing all sorts of law suits claiming fraud and, mis counts and inappropriate voter monitoring practices. Most of them have already been thrown out.
I hit the road at 10 am. It was raining off and on along the way and got colder and colder. Rob texted me when he got to Barstow. I was only 5 minutes behind him. I stopped for fuel and a coke. I had been fighting to stay awake for the past half hour. Its been horrible. I got back on the road.
Rob texted me again when he got to Baker, and again, I was only about 5 min behind him. I did catch him between Baker and Shoshone. He was behind a horse trailer and another very slow can. The horse trailer pulled over and after Shoshone the car did as well. I stayed behind him for a little bit, but then decided I could have all the cold stuff in my car put away before he got there so I passed him and went on ahead. As it turned out he pulled in just behind me at the house. It was cold
I unloaded my car and put all the cold stuff away and then went out to help him unload the trailer. We also unloaded the truck. Then we unhooked the trailer and scooted it up into the garage.
We had chicken Tortilla soup with left over spaghetti in it. It was actually pretty good.
We watched Joe Biden’s and Kamala Harris’s Victory Acceptance Speeches. Wow, it is so nice to have someone who is eloquent speaking again. Kamala, especially was great. How exciting for minority girls to have someone in a position of power to look up to. Someone they can aspire to be like, who is accepted by the majority of the nation. Rob even commented that he wished that she was going to be our President. At Biden’s age it is very well possible that she could become the President during the next 4 years. I hope nothing happens to him, but you just never know.
Then we chilled for the rest of the night.
