Week of October 25th, 2020; Pahrump, NV

This has been a fun week, although just a little sad.

Sunday, 25 Oct.

I did a sewing today.  I purchased a really cute T shirt for Bella that had a darling pair of flip flops and the words Life is a Beach embroidered on it.  The problem was it was to small and it was light blue, or actually, it was teal.  I bought it anyway and took it apart and made a pattern out of it. I made the pattern larger so it would fit Bella.  My intention was also to embroider something cute on it, but I forgot and sewed it up.  Oh well.  I also made hers pink.  The other one I sewed back up and figured I would give it to Teresa and Marks’ dog Reina.  She is a Chorky; and chihuahua Yorky mix.  She is cute.  She’s a bit smaller than Bella, but not tons.

After finishing my sewing I was ready to settle down and watch my boys play football.  That turned out to be a frustrating and sad event.  The Raiders played the Buccaneers.  The first quarter started off fine with the Raiders scoring a touchdown 1st, followed by the Buccaneers answering with their own making it 7 to 7.  The second quarter the Buccaneers scored 2 more touchdowns and the raiders only a field goal.  It went down hill rapidly from there with the final score being Buccaneers 45, Raiders only 20.  Arrrrrr;  its so hard to be a Raiders’ fan.

On to the Seattle Seahawks.  The Seahawks have won all 5 of their first games, coming into this one undefeated against the Cardinals who were 4 wins, 2 losses.  (The Seahawks had a bye last week so had only played 5 to the Cardinals 6).  Anyway, the Seahawks, as usual, were kicking butt until the 4th quarter when the Cardinals tied it up.  The Seahawks had scored a field goal that would have won, the game, but there was a flag and they had to bring it back. They didn’t make it again.  So, they went into overtime all tied up 34 - 34.  The Seahawks started off and failed to score.  The Cardinals also failed to score.  Then the Seahawks failed again and when the Cardinals got they ball the second time they scored a field goal to win the game.  I was soooooooo sad.

Today was a day I had been looking forward to.  We went for our morning walk and then Rob went to Las Vegas.  He had shopping to do and........Tony flew in from San Francisco to come and stay with us.  Yippee!  He and his family used to visit us all the time in both Cameron Park and especially in Tahoe, but it has been a very long time since then that he has come to visit.  This time he came alone.

Rob picked him up at 3 pm from the Las Vegas airport in the Jeep.  From there they did the Red Rock/ Lovell Canyon trail that Rob, Don, Linda and I had done last weekend.  They had a good time on it.  It is a fun trail, although nowhere as difficult as the Rubicon that they did together.

They arrived at about 6.  It was great having him visit.  We grilled a nice Tri Tip, mushrooms, and potatoes.  Also, I had baked cookies and they were very yummy.

Tuesday, 27 October.

We all got up and enjoyed our coffee and chatted.  It is actually to cold to sit outside in the mornings.  In fact, I now have to put a sweater on Bella when we go out for our morning walks.

Rob and Tony took off.  They took the Jeep in to get the oil changed and they went and picked up the RV and took it to the same place to get new tires put on it.  It’s funny.  The tires too way less time than the oil change.  They called me and told me they were going to have to wait an hour for the Jeep and did I want to go to breakfast.  I was having difficulty with a chore Rob had assigned me so they came back to the house and I fixed breakfasts here while he took care of the chore.

The chore???!!! we had failed to claim my Military retirement on our 2018 taxes and received a sweet letter from the IRS informing us of our error as well as informing us of the amount of money that we owe them immediately due to our error.  In looking at our return, we discovered that we also failed to do it for our 2019 return. That means we have to file an amended return for 2019.  The problem occurs because DFAS does not send out the 1099s. We have to go online and print them out ourselves.  I was having trouble getting them in a printable format.  He had briefly showed me how he was able to get it, but try as I may I was not able to get it.  So, while I was fixing breakfast he took care of it.

After breakfast they found out it was still going to be another hour on the Jeep so Tony, Rob, Bella and I went for a walk down to the creek.  She loves that.

They were finally able to get going.  They met Don in his Jeep and headed out to Dumont Dunes.

We pass Dumont Dunes on the way to Baker going to Temecula. There are always RVs out there with RZRs, dune buggy’s, jeeps, etc and it always looks like so much fun.  We found out there is a way to get there from here going on dirt roads and through Sperry Lake, so that is what they did today.

There are so many cool things and old towns around here.  I love exploring.

And as usual, there are old towns that have faded away.  Towns that were so important for their purpose back then and then something else made things easier and the towns faded away.  They remind me of all the old gold mining towns that faded away once they dug up all the gold in the areas.

They did make it all the way to Dumont Dunes!

But, it was late in the day so they didn’t play in them at all.

I on the other Hand had a pretty boring day.  I really wished I had some sort of sewing project to do, but I didn’t.  So, I played computer games.  Then I finally decided to start prepping dinner.  Don and Linda are coming for dinner and we are going to have hamburgers, but I decided to grill up some mushrooms and some bacon and some onions.  I also mixed garlic and cilantro and basil into the hamburger meat.  I made them into big patties, had the table set and the tomatoes sliced, pickles ready, buns ready and everything all prepped and ready when they got here.  Easy Peasy.

We had a fun evening.  Don and Linda are still so appreciative of Rob and Tonys’ job of leading them through the Rubicon trail.  We spent the evening chatting about other Jeep trails they’ve been on and others that they would like to do.  It was a fun eve.

Wednesday; 28 October.

We all got up and enjoyed our coffee and our last visit with  Tony.  He has a long drive ahead of him.  He is taking our Jeep and driving it all the way back to Vacaville, CA.  He is going to keep it and use it while we are gone for the next year.  He will have fun with it.

Rob went off to Vegas for a golf lesson and I stayed home and read about anchoring a boat and mooring and stuff like that in the Chapman Piloting and Seamanship.

Thursday; 29 October.

I had a 9 am appointment in Las Vegas with the Dentist.  I am only going to pick up my retainers.  I had to leave at 8am.  Who’s idea was that???? It only takes 50 minutes rather than an hour to get there, so I was a bit early and they weren’t even open yet.  At 9 am i went in, saw the Dentist, he popped the retainers on my top teeth and bottom teeth and they fit just fine and I was out of there by 9:05.  Jeez.  Almost a wasted drive.  But now I have them and hopefully my teeth wont get crooked again.

I drove home and Rob and Bella were finishing up their walk and were a block from home.  So funny, Bella recognized my car and got very excited.  Rob handed her to me through my window.  He told me Mark was waiting for him in front of the house.  And he was.  We are going to borrow Mark’s trailer to take a few items to the Ranch and to pick up stuff that we don’t want to leave in our RV or on our lot for renters while we are gone. That was really nice of him to deliver the trailer to us.  He had Reina with him so I gave him her Tee shirt.  It fit her perfectly.  We stood out and talked about boating and all that stuff for awhile.  He is a nice guy and Im glad that Debbie and Bruce introduced us.

Later we met them for dinner at the Japanese restaurant here in town. It’s like Bene Hanna’s where they cook it in front of you and do all the fancy stuff.  It was good, but not great.

They came over to our house afterward for wine and chats. Actually, Mark does not consume alcohol at all. I want to be more like him. I keep trying. It was a very fun evening  unfortunately we thought of it to late  we should have paid for their dinner since they are so kindly letting us use their trailer.  We will have to take them out when we all get back.  They are leaving this weekend for two weeks of Scuba diving in Cozumel.

The rest of the week was pretty boring.  Rob did play golf on Friday, but only 9 holes because it was painfully slow and he had to do a lot of waiting.

Corona update.  Unfortunately cases are increasing g all over the world.  We have record highs in 13 states.  It is so scary. Worldwide there are 46,750,991 cases.  There have been 1,204,150 deaths. The only good news is that worldwide there have been 33,674,588 recoveries.

In the US there have been 9,456,974 total cases.  There are 54,384 new cases. There have been 236,351 deaths and 279 new deaths this month.  There have been 6,085,415 people who have recovered from the Virus here in the US. Of the  3,135,208 current cases in the US 17,219 are in serious or critical condition.  It is still so horrible.  With the cold weather people cant sit outside so easily so it is going to spread more.  They are doing some crazy things at restaurants.  They are making outdoor bubbles for seating, but it is still enclosed.  So up to 4 people are sitting together at the same table inside a bubble, all breathing the same air.  It just doesn’t seem very safe to me.  So, keep washing your hands, keep wearing your masks and keep maintaining social distancing, 6 or more feet apart.  Many companies are working on and making progress on vaccines.  I sure hope they have a safe one soon.  They still don’t know if those who have recovered are immune to getting it again, or if they are germ free and cannot pass it on to anyone else. Crazy scary.
