When we woke up this morning; however, it was clear, blue skies. Even so, it is in the 80s in Albaquerque and we figured we'd prefer the heat, so we have decided to move on a day early. We just hope all the people who have been there for the hot air fest have already moved out. We hope to be staying at Kirkland AFB.
We packed, pulled in, loaded and got ready to hook up, but the door on the truck apparently turned into ajar during the night and the battery was dead. The truck wouldn't start. We discovered that we did not have jumper cables in either vehicle. We got some assistance from one of the KOA staff and we hooked my car to the truck. We had to leave it hooked up for awhile with my engine revving. That diesel engine takes a lot to get it to turn over.
We finally got it all running and we took off at just after 10 am. I had to take care of items before leaving the park, so as usual, I had to catch up with Rob on the road. It was just about noon before I caught him. The drive was pretty. I like New Mexico. I love the red and the sharp cuts in the cliffs.
We pulled into a big diesel station so he could get fuel and we could get some food. Yippee! The truck started up again.
He was concerned about that which is why I had to follow him. After we hit the road again, I zoomed on ahead to Kirkland AFB, The drive continued to be pretty.
I finally got to Kirkland and dove around a little while trying to find the Fam Camp (RV park). I finally stopped in at the lodging office and they gave me a map. I got to the park and the office was closed (it's Columbus Day) but they had a list of open spots. I went and checked them out.
Rob called me as I was looking, and together we chose #19. It is a nice shady spot. They only have 30 amps which means we can only run one A/C unit so the shady tree will make a big difference.
We set everything up, including Bella's fence and then we put the basket on my bike and we loaded Bella up and went for a ride around base. We found the gym, the dinning facility, and a 3-mile marked running trail. We followed the trail back to the gym and stopped to look at the posted map. Rob rode right through puncture vines (goat's heads) stickers. I stayed on the pathway. He came back to the bike path and we pulled all the stickers out of his tires. We continued on for about a quarter mile when I noticed that my front tire was flat. Shoot. We had spare tubes, but we didn't have a pump with us. Great. So, Rob rode like the wind back to the RV to get the pick up and come back and get me. I continued to walk my bike (with Bella in the basket) toward the RV Park.
After about 20 min Rob returned with the truck and we all went back to the Rig. As it turned out, he had to change both of my tires. What's up with that, he's the one who rode through the sticker vines.
We sat outside for a little while, then went in and watched a funny movie called This is where I leave You. A
After ward we went to bed.
