I packed up a beach bag and then waited for Chuck and Laurie. They arrived about 10 ish and we loaded up and headed out.
The blue dot on the right (at the edge of the land) is Los Barriles. Over on the bottom left is Todos Santos where we went last week, and up at the top is La Paz where we are going today. In the Middle is El Triunfo which we have to go through to get to both La Paz and Todos Santos. It is the cool mining town that has the awesome bakery and restaurant that we stopped in at last week.
It was a pretty drive. Windy and some steep areas, but then the hills became sharper and more interesting the closer we got to La Paz.
We were headed to a Restaurant called the Tail Hunter down on the Melecon which is the walkway along the beach. But, when we were almost there Lori informed us it was a Mexican Holiday (Constitution Day) and that restaurant was closed so they were going to another.
Funny thing was, while she was texting us she was also texting Rob. He sent her a picture and told us to enjoy the Beach!
Yikes! He was in Seattle. The northwest is getting hammered with snow! Not to worry he said, he is headed to Kauai in a couple hours.
Meanwhile, back in La Paz as we are trying to figure out where we are and where Lori is Chuck failed to wait for pedestrians in a crosswalk and we got pulled over. The Police man doesn't speak any English, but we figure out what we did wrong. Then from the back seat I tell him we are lost and show him Lori's text with the name of the restaurant and that we are meeting our Amigos. (We actually knew we were 5 blocks away). He says Oh. Tells us 3 blocks and says "no Ticket, but turns back to Chuck and keeps standing there. We are like ticket? No Ticket? He says "no ticket", but continues to wait. Finally Chuck hands him 200 pesos which he quickly pockets and lets us go. The little shister!
So we found the restaurant and our buddies.
It was a nice place, right on the water and we had a good lunch.
From there we drove out to Punta Balandra. It is a beach North of La Paz
You can see it's name at the tip. You can sort of tell where the road ends at the beach. At that is the beach we went to and hung out at for a couple hours.
The water is super shallow, in fact it is only ankle deep for ever. And it is super clear.
We dropped all our stuff under a palapa and headed out into the water. I fully expected Bella to start barking at us all as we went into the water. that is normally what she does warning us of the dangers of being in, wading in, swimming in the water. But surprisingly, she went right in and ran in it and waded in it and had a good ole time with the rest of us.
At first we thought this was a pile of clam poop! Clam Poop?! John, Clams don't poop! As it turns out, it is some sort of a worm it is about one inch long. It takes the sand in at one end and out the other! And they were underwater and on land.
John & Chuck
Cat & Bella, John in back and Lori
It is a really cool place, but no bathrooms. Sooooo we packed up and drove on out to Playa Tecolote (sound like Te Ko Latte)
It is up there at the top of the map, and the end of the road. A Bunch of people dry camp (no hookups whatsoever) there on the beach. There is a couple of bars and restaurants (with banos) there, but the beach is rocky and not as nice. Anyway, we went there to pee and then we packed up and hit the road. John and Lori went back to their place in LaPaz and Chuck, Laurie, and I headed back to Los Barriles.
One thing you do not want to do in Mexico is drive at dark. there are cows, horses, goats and donkeys roaming the streets and not easy to spot.
We got back to town just as it was getting dark which is perfect timing. They dropped me off and went on to their abode.
As we were coming in I saw there were a bunch of peeps at the hot tub so I grabbed a beer and went off to join them. They were my quad-trip buddies from here in the park.
I went back, grabbed a bite and then went to bed. Hopefully Rob is safe and sound in Kauai.
