Thursday, 10 November, LAX to Mazatlan, Mexico

We got up and enjoyed some coffee in the Teton. We decided we wanted to leave for the airport no later than 9:00.  Our flight was at 11:30, but since we were going to Mexico and had to have our passports verified and everything we wanted to give ourselves plenty of time.
As it turned out the longest wait was for a wheelchair for Barbara. The terminals are really big and the distance from the ticket counter to the gate was quite far.  Security was easy.  We both had Pre checks so that is really nice.
We found the gate no problem and then first waited for Rob to join us, and then time to board.  We were even the first to board because Barbara needed a little extra time.
Easy Peasy!
We took off and then dug into the ribs and the fish.  Yummy!  We ate them all.
The flight was pretty good and pretty quick.  Only 2 hours.
We had another wheelchair ready for us in Mazatlan and that was awesome.  They took Barbara all the way to baggage claim. We found her bag and mine right away, but not Robs. While we were waiting for Robs bag they took Barbara right through customs and inspection. That was great.  We finally got Rob's bag and then together we went through customs.  Rob hit the button for the inspection and of course got a red light, so we had to wait for them to go through our bags.  Man or Man, Rob always seems to get selected.
We FINALLY got through and came out to see Chris with a big grin waiting with Barbara and his lovely wife Veronica.  We finally got to meet her.
He drove us to his home and gave us the tour.  It is really nice.  We were very impressed.
The garage on the right and the part of the building you see to the right of the garage is the original house.  Then they built on the middle garage and the one on the left (for his boat) and then a lovely apartment above it.  It is all very pretty.  As we got the tour we met the two dogs, Candy and Cheeka, and one of the kitties.  Back down stairs we met Veronica's children.  Marlyn, Valerie, and Gustof.  They are all wonderful.  Veronica is learning English and doing great.  Rob does pretty well with Spanish so she is polishing him up and helping me learn.
Veronica is training for a junior Ironman.  She is training with a team and every morning at 5 am they either bike, run or swim. She is very dedicated to it and is doing really well.
Last Sunday they had a competition and she, with her team, swam 5.5 kilometers from a point on the beach out to one of the islands.  It took her 2.5 hours.  A year ago she couldn't even swim because she was to afraid of the water.  She is awesome.
We all went out to dinner to a place called The Fish Market.  It was excellent.  Rob had Mah-Hi and I had shrimp, scallop, and calamari ceviche. It was soooo good.
We went back to Chris and Veronica's and Chris took Rob and I over to the little apartment that we get to stay in for this week.  It is nice.  Not nearly as nice as the one that he built over his garage, but it will do just fine.
He left us on our own and we went to bed.
It is wonderful being here in Mazatlan, finally meeting Veronica and her kids and getting to see Chris again.  I haven't seen him since my Father's memorial in 2011.
