We woke up to smoke and ash on everything. There is a new fire in Shaver Lake. The National Guard had to air lift some of the campers out of the Shaver area due to the new fire. Scary.
We had one cup of coffee and then poured one to go. We packed up and hit the road. We were on the road by 8:30. Our destination is Fresno. It will be a 4 hour drive.
We were originally going to stay three nights at Elks in Fresno so we could go and visit Mom. But, it is going to be triple digit temps and Smokey. One of our A/Cs is not working real well, so we decided we would only stay one night. The plan was to visit Mom this afternoon/evening, perhaps take her out to dinner, and then tomorrow go to breakfast. After breakfast Rob would go on down to Long Beach and I would run errands with Mom and then head down later.
We didn’t have any cell service while we were at Loon Lake the whole weekend. When we left and got back in cell service my phone started blowing up. There were three voice messages from Mom as well as a text.
She was not allowed to have visitors, not even family and she was afraid to go out in the heat. If she did leave she would have to go into quarantine and be stuck in her apartment for a week and she didn’t want to do that, so she asked us not to come.
When we stopped for fuel in Sac we called Long Beach to see if we could come in tonight. We have reservations starting tomorrow night, but they didn’t have room for us tonight. Rob called a place in Gorman on the Grapevine hoping that at that elevation we would be out of the heat and smoke.
We traveled down I-5 rather than 99. It was 111 as we went through the valley. I was really hoping it was going to cool off. We stopped a couple times for fuel or to use the bathroom. I was still drinking tons of water so having to stop often. The heat was stifling.
All together it took us 8 hours to get to the RV park. It was 104 when we arrived. We set up and Rob went off for a dip in the pool. When we drove past it I saw that it was full of people. I was not interested.
We turned on both Air conditioners and I put a cold damp towel over Bella to cold her off. We sat quietly and it didn’t take that long to cool off thank goodness.
Rob came back. We fixed some dinner, read and then went to bed fairly early.
