Amarillo, TX 52°
We slept in this morning; not on purpose, but it is overcast and was still dark even at 7am. We are 2 hours ahead of CA now. I worked with “go daddy” (my hosting people) this morning while Rob secured everything for travel. We got on the road at 9:45.
We stopped for gas 16 miles later at Flying J. I had been driving and still had a quarter of a tank to go, but no more Flying Js on hwy 40. I spanked Rob on mileage. I got 10.5 miles per gallon on that tank. Pat me on the back. We decided to increase the ante to $1.00 instead of a quarter. This time Rob owes.
Our destination for today is Ft Leonard wood, Missouri. According to Streets and Trips we have a 10 hour day. Yuk. The good thing though is that we are going to stay 2 nights. Tomorrow we will play golf and have some fun.
3:15 pm stopped at Flying J in Oklahoma City for fuel. Ooooooo Rob only got 8.5 miles per gallon….He owes a dollar!
Ah, good news. As of 4:32 pm 3 Oct 09 we have an accepted offer on the Condo in Burien. Yea!
We were going to stop in a small town along the way, rather than going all the way to Lake of the Ozarks, but when we got to that area we were both still very awake so we decided to continue on. This was not really a good idea. As we continued down the road I was feeling very tired. I don’t know how Rob was feeling.
It was a small winding road to get to LoO. I was following the route on Streets & Trips GPS map which was good, because I was able to tell him when sharp turns were coming or big curves, etc.
We finally arrived around midnight. We are not very quiet, (big diesel and all) so we felt bad and were trying to conduct our set up quickly. We learned a very important lesson (the hard way as most lessons are learned). Do not push your day. A 10 hour day is way to much. Driving until midnight is way to long. Trying to set up in the middle of the night when it is dark and everyone around you is asleep is not smart. We did not use our check list, we hurried, and we made a big mistake…. We drove the truck away from the RV without unhooking the power cord. The result was ripping the cord with the attachment out of the truck. Now, things are a mess. Nothing we could do in the middle of the night, so we went to bed. By the way, Cat wanted to get here so bad she went too fast and she got 7.8 mpg, ouch.
