Thursday, June 16th, Hayden Island, Portland, OR

Hayden Island is in the middle of the Columbia River.  The shore to the North East of us is Vancouver, WA, the shore to the South West is Portland, OR.
It is mostly cloudy this morning.
Rob only has today off, and then he has to leave again.  He has a one-day trip that he was hoping to have given away, and then a 4-day trip.
We sat around drinking our coffee and then at noon we went over to the shopping center.  We stopped in at Petco and bought some new fencing for Bella.  What we have is bigger and several pieces and heavy.  The new stuff is only 2' tall, by 16 feet and easier to manage.  We bought 3 of them.  Each one has a gate built in which is also nice (if you can put them in a useable spot).  We also bought some window stickers for the firemen alerting that we have a dog, in the event that we have a fire and Bella happens to not be with us.  I suppose it would really be for if there was a fire in the park that had the risk of catching us on fire, because if we actually did catch on fire there probably would not be much opportunity for anyone on the outside to go in before the entire thing went up.  Hmm, let's not go there!
After Petco we went to Panera Bread where we met my cousins Kai and Amanda Davidson for lunch.  They both live here in Portland, not to far away.  Mandi works for the Hotel Industry and has, I believe, for the past 2o years. Kai is finishing up her BA and Teaching Credential at Pullman.  It was really nice seeing them and catching up with all that is going on in their lives.  Their brother David just got married a couple weeks ago.  I would love to get together with him and his new wife Katherine.  They are world travelers, movers and shakers.  I hope we can work it out.
From there we went sight seeing.  Rob had heard about a community south of here in Tigard on a golf course and he wanted to go see it.  It was pretty.  Big houses, pool, club house, golf course, but it wasn't anything I fell in love with.  From there we went to Lake Oswego.  He had heard it was a really nice place to live as well.  It was a real cute little town. We walked around a little bit, but there wasn't much going on.
From there we went to place called South Waterfront.  Rob had heard it was a really nice place where no one needed cars and you could walk everywhere.  They also had a Farmers Market.  It was a cute little city right on the river.  Everyone walks because they all live in glass, high-rise, apartments.  Their views would be awesome, but really small decks if any decks at all.  The ones with big decks probably cost a fortune.
They had a nice Farmers Market so we wandered around it.  They actually had wine, beer, hard cider, and vodka tasting for free.  Hmmmm!  We bought some Hummus, chips to go with them, apricots, and Rob did buy some beer.
From there we went to the Japanese Garden.  They wouldn't let Bella in so we went to the Rose Garden instead. It smelled Heavenly in the garden.  All the roses were in bloom.

It's a good thing we didn't pay to go into the Japanese Garden because it started pouring 10 min after entering.

We stood under a big tree for about 10 min.
Bella does not like the rain.  Look at her mouth!

We went back to the car and then went to the Hoyt Arboretum and walked around in there.  We followed the Magnolia Trail. I had only seen the white magnolias, never pink before.  They are real pretty.  Then we followed the Beach trail back to the visitor center and headed home.
We tried to watch some TV when we got back, but were not able to pick anything up either through the antenna, nor the cable.  Finally we gave up and went to bed.
I'll have to talk to the park people tomorrow and find out what the deal is for the park cable.
