Tuesday, 12 December, Houston to San Antonio

We decided we wanted a little bit easier day today.  We have been pushing it and mileage wise we are a bit further along.  So, we decided to stop in San Antonio.  We will get in early enough that we can go to the gym and go down to the River Walk for dinner.
It had frozen during the night. Not only that, but we woke up to water pouring out the bottom of the rig.  We couldn't figure out where it was coming from.
Another problem, the connection for the RV brakes were indicating a code other than "everything is perfect"  It was indicating a grounded wire.  Rob called the manufacturer to find out and tried to track it down.  But in the process it seemed to have fixed itself so we decided to go on and take it easy.  Well, it continued to cycle between all is well and not having any breads on the trailer.  There is definitely a wire shorting out somewhere.
When we got to San Antonio we checked into the RV park on Fort Sam Houston.  It is one of my Army homes away from home.  Since I started out enlisted I did my medic training and my Physical Therapy training here.  Then as Medical Service Corps Officer I did my Officer's Basic Course and my Officer's Advanced Course here.
We got set up and chilled for a little bit and then went to the gym.  Boy it was nice being able to work out again.  I did 30 min. on the rowing machine.  That is a full body work out.  Then I spotted Rob with is weights and then I went onto the treadmill.  I had set up for a 30 min run on the Road to Hana, Maui video, but Rob came after a mile and said we were done.
We came back home and went for a little walk with Bella.  Then we showered and went down town.  We went to the Alamo and wandered around a took a couple pictures.  Blooms was very disappointed that they did not get to stop and check it out our their drive out.  Apparently they drove 13 hour days and drove straight through from Berkeley to New Orleans.

Rob and I have both been here before both together and separately and neither of us remember this statue across the street from the Alamo.

They have blocked off the street in front of the Alamo and made it into walking only which is nice.

We wandered around inside the Alamo grounds, but a lot of the displays were already closed, as was the church.  The grounds were pretty and all lit up for the holidays.
We went across the street and through the Hilton's grounds.  It is so pretty with the streams and waterfalls.
At the bottom of the steps they had this Hofbrau.  All the gals are dressed in Bavarian costumes and they serve German food.  They also have beer and Margaritas to go.  As long as you are below street level you'd can have open containers.  So, when in Rome!!!I got a margarita and Rob got a beer and off we went.

We wandered into the Hilton's lobby.  You have to go through it to get to the River walk if you come this way.  It was really pretty in there as well.
We got out onto the River Walk and were soooooo pleased.  They have cleaned it all up.  They continued the nice walk-ways and added water falls and sculptures.  There are more restaurants down there and some shops and it is amazingly nice.  We were so pleased.  The boats are running and people were singing Christmas Carols as they floated by.
A lot of the restaurant seating is still right there on the river walk way.  There was a couple sitting with their giant Great Dane named Harley.  We put Bella up on the wall so they could meet.  She was not so sure about it.

We walked the entire length of half of the River Walk.  Many of the old restaurants that we knew were there as well as plenty new ones.  We finally came back and settled on an Italian restaurant.  I love Mexican food, but really did not want to indulge in it.  It is definitely not the healthiest.
Anyway, the food was good and we sat across from a nice couple who are from the Las Vegas area.  We chatted with them for a good part of the evening.  We finally said our good byes and headed back to the car.
When we got back on base I noticed that several of the houses were decorated so we checked them out before returning to our own.
We were very tired so we went straight to bed.
