Rob called and said they are waiting for some software they need for a tool they have and the truck won't be ready until the afternoon so he is going to take a later flight and won't get in until 1:30 tomorrow afternoon. He wants to go to the gym on base after I pick him up so please bring his gym bag.
Well, that changes things.
Today is finally a beautiful, sunny day so rather than spend it cleaning and doing laundry I think I will go to Fredericksburg. It was a cute town with lots of shops and I wanted to go back so today is my opportunity.
I took a shower and got dressed and headed out. It is about a 40 min drive, maybe less. I found a place to park and we began our wander. Fredericksburg has a very strong German influence. I like that about it.
We first walked by the park.
It is very festive for the holidays and they have an ice skating rink set up. There was a private party going on at the rink and won't open up to the public until 4. Not that Bella and I have plans to skate of course. Just stating the facts.
I remember seeing lots of these when I was in Germany. Not quite as large as this but they were always for sale at the Kriskrikle Market.
You would light the candles and the heat would make it turn. This one is electric.
They also have a giant Christmas tree all decorate.
And a kids Christmas train
On the other side of the park is the Pioneer Garden.
It has some really pretty sculptures and plaques.
We continued to roam around and found the Admiral Nimitz Museum
I think it is designed to look like a ship. It's actually quite large, It takes up a whole block. We did not check it out tho.
We continued to wander around and we did some shopping, bought a couple cool things.
We did a little wine tasting. They were Italian wines and quite expensive. I thought Napa was expensive with their tastings, This place was almost $30. Just to taste. I didn't want to be crass so I went ahead and did the tasting. There was a white wine that I did not taste but sounded delicious so I bought it for Rob and my Mom, and then there was a red that I thought Kim and Phil might enjoy sharing with me so I bought the two bottles. Normally when you buy wine they waive the tasting fee. Not this place....$117.00 for two bottles of wine and a tasting. Who do they think they are??!!
There was a great kitchen gadget place with the wonderful German knives. I have their knives and also their sharpener. But, the sharpener is worn out and I want a new one. It just so happened that they had one on sale. Yippee!
I bought myself a new little tool kit. I have on that is pink and it has always been very, very handy. It has a hammer, two full size screwdrivers and two little fine ones, scissors, pliers, and a tape measure. It is in its own box and lives inside the rig where I can always find it and use it. I was thinking about it yesterday and thought I should leave it in the Seville and get another one for the Teton. The one I found today is perfect. It is in a leather, zip up pouch. It hammer is much smaller, but adequate, and it has a ratchet set and various size screw heads. It is very cool.
I was getting quite hungry and really wanted some German Food. I was craving some schnitzel. But, we were really tired and tired of walking. We went by a couple places but they didn't have it or didn't open up until later, so we finally left.
We drove back to Kerrville and settled on some Bar-B-Q. It was pretty tasty.
We went on home and watched TV until bedtime.
