SUNDAY, 16 AUGUST 2020; BEND, OR

 Sunday, 16 August

I cannot believe it is midway through August already.  Time is just flying by.

It is lovely and warm already.  I took Bella out and stopped to chat with the man next to us.  His little dog was barking from the car so he let her out.  Peaches is her name and she’s just a 9 month old bundle of fur.  She and Bella chased each other around for a bit.  They are leaving today and heading back to Boise.

We had our coffee then walked down to the office.  We needed to pay for last night and find out what spot we are supposed to move into.  We are here for 7 nights and originally they said we may have to move mid way.  As it turns out we wont.  They said if our spot was open we could move there right away, otherwise it would be after they moved out at 11.  We walked over and dis-covered it was open.  Yippee!

We went back and secured everything for the move.  Rob is getting so good at moving this rig around.  These are tight spots to get into because they are on both sides of the street.  The nice man across from us asked if we needed him to move his truck.  I didn’t think so, but he did it anyway.

After we got situated the man came over and talked to us.  He told us it wasn’t fair that our truck was newer than his.  That’s funny.  He was getting ready to move his rig.  They are from Fresno.  Such a small world.  They were supposed to head home today, but it is going to be in the triple digits back in Fresno this coming week so they decided to extend here.  The spot they are is is already scheduled for someone else, so they have to move to a new one.

We chatted for a little bit they got everything set up.  We are on a brick patio. It is large and then there is grass between the spots and lots of big pine trees providing shad.

Once set up I decided it would be a good time to clean.  Dust, clean window sills, vacuum and clean the microwave.  Also the rest of the kitchen and bathroom.  It is so nice that it doesn’t take long to thoroughly clean this place.

I remembered it was Sunday and we had decided a while back that we would go out to breakfast on Sunday mornings.  So we headed off.  Unfortunately, by the time we headed off it was almost noon and there were long lines (really long with the required social distancing).  So we decided to go back and I would fix us a nice breakfast.

It is getting hot and there is a big river through town.  We took Rob’s paddle board in to a place to see if they could fix the blow out along the seam.  Again, the seam is the worst place for an inflatable paddle board to have a blow out.  They took it in and said they would work on it for a couple days, but there were no guarantees.  Meanwhile, we reserved a board for later this after noon to go down the river.

We went back to the rig and I fixed us that nice breakfast then we walked a little bit with Bella, napped, and then headed down to the river.  It was clouding up and I kept asking Rob if we were going to get struck by lightning.  He kept telling me I was crazy.

I really like this sculpture at the river park.  If you cant figure it out, it is a bunch of “canoes”.

We got my board inflated, put Bella in her life vest and headed to the water.  Rob’s board was there on the beach waiting for him.

There were a gazillion people there.  So many were right in the entrance to the water that we had to wait a bit to find an opening to put the boards in.  The current was fairly swift.  We floated/paddled down, then had to paddle back.

Bella did just fine.  She didn’t seem scared.  Of course I never stood up so there was no worry of dumping us.

There were a lot of fun rafts and blow ups on the river.  People are so fun sometimes.

I liked the bridge with all the flags.

The sky was getting darker and darker and pretty soon I started hearing thunder.  We had already started heading back when I saw lightning.  I pointed it out to Rob who merely told me to paddle.
When we got back to shore and started heading for the car the storm hit.  The wind picked up like crazy.  People were struggling to control their tubes and boards.  One inflated paddle board got away and was blowing across the grass with people chasing it.
Just as we got in the car the sky opened up and it started pouring.  Rob remembered that we had left the awning out on the RV back at the park.  Needless to say, we high-tailed it back there.
There was debris all over the place in the park. The awning was fine.  It was wet though and I hate rolling it up when it’s wet. It gets mildew and I really do not like that smell.
The storm died away quickly.  The rain stopped and the wind did as well.  We were able to put the awning back out to let it dry.
Rob went out for a bike ride.  I went to the grocery store.
It was a quiet evening.
