We ate some breakfast and then went into town and met Ken and Barb at their hotel. Today we are going on a hike.
We drove out of town just a little way to Ski Hill. It is the home of the Ski Jump Nationals back in the '50s. As time went on the progression of clothing and equipment made the jump too short and they had to close it down. They did build a new small learning jump though.
While we were there we saw signs for an amphitheater and were wondering where it was. We encountered a woman and she showed us where it was and told us that Sound of Music was being performed there tonight. Naturally we had to go and check it out. It reminded Rob and I of the amphitheater in Tahoe at Sand Harbor.
From here we drove on up the Icicle Road for about 16 miles onto a dirt road, until we came to the trail head for the . Icicle Gorge Trail. We grabbed our hiking sticks, water, etc. and headed out.
It was beautiful. It followed the Wenatchee River for a bit on
Then there was a bridge
And it followed it on the other side.
It was a really nice, warm hike. At one point we came upon a really cool camp ground that had an awesome swimming hole.
The hike was a total of 4.2 miles. We were pretty hot, tired and dusty by the end. we were all wanting a brat and a cold beer.
So, when we got back into town that's where we went. To a cute little place that was playing German Umm pah pah music, served cold beer and yummy brats. Actually, I think the Sausage Garten has better brats.
We next went back to their hotel where Rob and Ken went for a swim.
Afterward we went into their little clubhouse and played a couple hands of Pinocle. It was getting a little late and we wanted to have dinner, so we couldn't play a full game.
We went to a restaurant called South. It featured Latin Am food which included Cuban dishes and drinks. Someone had recommended it to Rob and told him to be sure to get a Basil Margarita. So he did. I didn't like it. I ended up getting a Mangorita which was pretty good. Everyone enjoyed their food, and the restaurant. Our waiter was real tall and had a really deep, deep voice. He was really nice.
We returned to our camp ground and found our meadow half filled with RVs. Yuk!
We went to bed after a very fun and full day.
