As it turned out, Rob dropped Bella and I off at what we thought would be a fun center in Downtown Bangor. We got there just about noon, and then Rob went off to play golf. That meant Boo and I had about 4 hours to do what ever while we waited for Rob to come back.
As it turned out, there really wasn't anything there in the area where he dropped us off. I asked around a bit, but didn't find anyplace nearby with any quaint shops or anything. So we made our way down to the water.
First we hit the Kenduskeag Stream with a parkway that leads down to the Penobscot River. While walking I came upon..
Who is one of the founding fathers.
Then this beautiful cathedral.
Then Estevan Gomez who is another famous mucky muck.
Finally we arrived and the Kenduskeag Stream Heritage Trail. The funny thing about this is that this sign is actually located where the stream meets the River and the bulk of the trail is along the river.
The Munchkin Family. Not really, but the statue didn't have a name.
Across the river is the Hightide Restaurant. On this side is the Sea Dog Brewing company . This is where Rob met me after his golf game.
The Sister City Memorial!
And this is a chapel on the other side of the Union Bridge, takes from the deck of the Sea Dog Brewing Company.
The saving grace for today is that just upon arriving at the river I encountered two women who were following each other around and reaching their phones up poles and under things and getting beeps. Hmmmm I thought.
So, I tracked them down and asked them what they were doing. They told me they were playing a game called Munzee. It is a type of scavenger hunt that you can play all over the world. They are from Canada. I downloaded the app and they gave me a few tips. The app determines your location and then shows you a map of all the munzees in the area. They are little scanner code stickers that are stuck on things all over the place. Some are actually virtual and as soon as you get with in the vicinity you can capture them and get credit for them. Others are actually stickers on poles, signs, under boxes, drain pipes, etc. Like geocaching, there is a map and a distance meeter. The munzees have names which gives a clue to their location and then you can get further information, such as (on the side of the green box, or on the small gray box on the big box, or "4 hour parking", or "doggy bags"). So you find the sticker and scan it and then you get credit for finding it. I capture 47 munzees in the next three hours while waiting for Rob to finish playing golf. I earned 982 points, earned 9 badges and had a good time.
Bella thought we were going crazy walking zigzag and in circles and back and forth.
Finally I had gotten all the ones in the immediate area and Rob should be finishing up so Bella and I went to Sea Dog to have an adult beverage while waiting for Rob.
We didn't have to wait long.
We had Lobster bisque soup, salad, mashed potatoes, butter nut soup and a veggie burger. I wrote this blog and then we left.
It is only 5:17 pm as I finish writing this. We are leaving so I am publishing this now because I won't have internet once we leave. If anything else worthy of writing about occurs tonight I will have to write about it and publish it tomorrow.
