We packed everything up and are excited about getting on the road and getting back into the USA.
We were on the road at about 8:30.
We got to Tecate, Mexico and I tried to take pictures from this side of the city because I know I took them from the other side.
It is actually a big place. I met a couple yesterday at one of the wineries who live here in Tecate, Mexico.
It took awhile to get to the border. We were able to buy fresh tortillas one more time from a vender on the side of the road. They weren't still warm like we normally get, but they were fresh!
Finally we got to the border, just a few more feet.....
We passed into the US at 9:36. They went in and looked in the freezer and took some bacon. I normally open the package and split it up into packages of 6 slices. This packages are just ziplock bags and are unlabeled. They cannot determine country of origin so they took them. No
problem.
On the USA side of Tecate we pulled over on the side of the road and waited for John and Lori. They pulled up behind us about 5 minutes later. Then we all waited for Chuck and Laurie. They finally pulled up behind us as well.
This is where, after two months we part company. Chuck and Laurie are going on up the Calif and Oregon coast. Lori, John, Rob and I are heading to Tucson.
We gave big hugs and fondly said good bye. They took off left and the four of us went right.
Yippee! Back in the USA
Well, we are back in the US, but somehow it doesn't look a whole lot different.
Except, the roads are a heck of a lot wider and smoother.
We arrived at Quechan Casino in Winterhaven, Ca around noonish.
It is a pretty cool casino
They have a very large dirt parking lot and they allow RVs to park there for free. They can actually stay there as long as they want.
We set up next to each other. Again, we are only going to be here for one night, so we didn't even disconnect the truck again.
We went out to walk the dogs and encountered an interesting situation. A very large Class A got very stuck in the sand. A tow truck pulled up to try to pull it out. The tow truck couldn't get right behind it without getting stuck itself. It was not only at a distance, but at a weird angle. It hooked up to the rig with cables. Unfortunately, it pulled the rig a bit sideways and deeper into the sand.
Lori and I were thinking why are they pulling it backwards they should be pulling it forward. They'll just end up getting the front wheels dug into the holes where the back wheels are now.
Well, we must have sent vibes. They started pulling it forward. They even put some fire logs in front of the back wheels hoping it would help. It didn't. It made it worse.
The poor guys kept digging and putting wood planks and nothing was working.
Finally they brought in the big guns. A diesel size tow truck. It hooked up to the Class A and pulled it out. Everyone in the park clapped and cheered.
Well, that entertained us for a couple hours. Now we are hungry. So, we walked over to the Casino.
We went inside and decided we would gamble first and then eat and then maybe gamble again.
Rob didn't really feel like gambling so he went to a bar for a beer and to watch golf. we all agreed to meet in 45 min and then go eat.
I went with Lori and we found some poker machines. Yes, it only took the 45 min to lose my $20.00. I started out playing quarter machine, then switched machines and did something really wrong and lost about $10. on one hand. I returned to the machine by Lori and continued to lose the rest.
We all got back together and went to one restaurant in the casino that features hamburgers, but they weren't open for dinner, so we went to the steak house.
It was really good. The food was excellent, the wine was good and the service was really nice as well.
After dinner we did a little more gambling and then went to the bar for one more drink and to watch the last of the golf tournament. It was a very fun final evening together.
