It is still overcast today. Isn’t it summertime? Isn’t it supposed to be sunny and on the hot side?
We decided today that we would go for a mountain bike ride and do the loop that we did when we were here before that I remember loving. I hope I didn’t block out any horrible scary parts from my memory. I remember it being a really fun rolling, curvy, smooth trail that was a lot of fun. We thought we would ride our bikes from here to the trail head which is about 3 miles away. But first, we were hungry. We decided we would go to breakfast and, we decided we would walk.
We walked downtown. It is only a mile to downtown from the RV park and it is all sidewalks. It is nice to be off the main highway, but that is where all the shops are and I wanted to know what is where so we walked along it. We found the Outdoorsman that we bought all our paddle board stuff last time and decided we would stop in there on the way back. We also found the fly fishing store and thought we would stop in there on the way back as well and see about a fly fishing trip. I would love to learn how to cast. I don't really care about catching the fish, because I don't know how to deal with them if I did catch them, but the experience would be fun.
We arrived at The Farmhouse Inn and Kitchen. It is a cute little house with a front porch. You order your food at the counter inside. They have about three tables inside and about three on the porch outside. There were quite a few people inside. We masked up, I chose what I wanted and then took Bella outside to a table. Rob stayed in and ordered. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and Rob had a breakfast bowl. They were both somewhat boring, but it was fun to get out.
On the way back we did stop in at the Fly Store. We asked about a half day trip. They are pretty booked up. Basically they take two people out in a boat and you can either go out into the lake or into a river. They provide all the equipment and teach you how to do it. I think I would really prefer to stand in the river with waders and cast rather than sit in a boat. Anyway, they were booked up, but said they would make some calls, but if they had availability we would have to pay up front. We were thinking it might be something that Pam and Craig might want to do so we didn't want to make any plans until we checked with them. We decided to move on.
I want some new walking sticks. Mine are old and they don't hold their position. I set the length and pretty soon one is two inches shorter than the other and I have to keep readjusting it. That was one reason for going to the Outdoorsman. Along with that, we needed some bear spray. We are in Grizzly country and it is best to have spray with you when you go hiking or biking. The trail we will be riding is very popular with hikers and bikers, so there likely won't be any bears, but best to be safe. We do have bear bells on our bikes. They are big (one inch diameter) sleigh bells velcro'd onto our handlebars that jingle with every bump. The idea is to let bears hear us so they move on as opposed to us coming upon them quietly and startling them into attacking. Anyway! The hiking sticks were ridiculously expensive there. $150. a pair or $40. for individuals. Ridiculous. We got our bear spray and Rob bought a new bladder for his camel back and we moved on. We stopped by the Ace Hardware on the way back just incase they had any walking sticks. They didn't.
We returned to the Rv and sat for a bit. And then Rob fell asleep. Finally, we decided if we were going to do it we better get a move on. Since it was getting late we decided to drive to the start rather than ride the three miles. We got to the trail head and none of it looked familiar. Oh Oh. We set out. It is a 13 mile loop, and I really only remember bits and pieces of a small section. I was a little bit fearful. But as we set out it was easy and fun. I did remember sections of it. I loved it. All of it. I almost got killed twice by on-coming riders who were going way to fast. Up hill has the right of way, but I had to crash into the bank with the first guy because he was flying down and we didn't see each other until the last minute. I suggested we both might slow down. Other riders and hikers we encountered were no problem. It is a lot more populated than I remember. The trail is called Whitefish Lion Mountain and one section is called the Lollipop because that is what it looks like. There are also lakes out there and nice overlooks. It is just such a great trail.
When we were here 4 years ago I remember riding it the first time with Rob, then hiking it with Jennifer, Rob and the dogs, and then I remember riding it on my own. So cool.
We returned to camp hungry. We ate dinner, watched some TV and went to bed.
