Today is the day we find out what our near future may look like. It is the day Rob is supposed to find out what incentive line Rob has been awarded from Alaska Airlines. His first choice was for 24 months, second was 18, then 12, then 6. They were only offering 2- 24 months and 2- 18 months in LA. since it goes by seniority he didn’t know what he would end up with. We thought the bid was going to be posted first thing in the morning, but it wasn’t.
We decided we wanted to go for a mountain bike ride for our last day in The Sandpoint area. Schweitzer Mountain is the ski area here. They have converted many of their ski runs and trails into mountain bike trails. The good thing is that they have marked them for DH down hill for the advanced, crazy riders, or XC for the milder cross country trails. Sometimes they were just little off shoots from each other that weren’t all that knarley, but some were freaky scary that I don’t even want to think about. We stuck to the XC.
Originally the plan was for us all to go up in the Jeep and the truck. We were to drive the Jeep to the bottom and park it then all jump into the truck with the bikes and go up. They would drop us off then they could explore the ski village and do whatever. Then, they drive the truck back down to where the Jeep is parked and swap, leaving the truck so we’d have it for the bikes when we were done. Then they would take the Jeep and have it for the rest of the day so they could go do whatever they wanted. But, Pam didn’t want to go.
Craig took us to the top. We did have to stop in the village to figure out where we needed to be dropped off to begin the trail. I bought a really pretty aqua (sort of) colored velour light weight jacket. A fuzzy I always call them. In one of the shops and Rob git a map of the runs. Craig got to enjoy the view from up there.
He dropped us off.
But pretty soon it started getting rocky. My bike has no problem whatsoever climbing up rocky trails. But, as we continued I started thinking to myself “we have to come back down this rocky trail and this is the kind of trail I crash on.” So it dawned on me. Since we are going up and coming back down this same trail, I don’t have to go up any more. I can sit right here. Rob can take my bike the rest of the way up and I will sit right here and wait for him to come back down and then we will do the rest of the trails together.
So that’s what we did. I sat on the side of the trail and waited for him to go up to the top and then come back down. He wasn’t gone all that long
I did have to ride the steep rocky stuff back down, and I was a bit nervous, but it was OK. And, there were some amazing views from up there.
And then we went through the a really flowery, bushy section that was not only really fun But it smelled good. It sort of smelled like plumerias and reminded me of Hawaii.
Next we went through the section that I remember from before. ...the trees.
Lots and lots of trees with the trail twisting and turning between them and around them and for me sometimes (before sometimes) through them.
Luckily, this time, I didn’t try to go through any of them. I didn’t hit any of them. I was so proud of myself, and yet I was really trying hard not to be. I just wanted to get through the whole ride without crashing and getting hurt. It’s almost like I have to wait until afterward to enjoy it.I did get through the whole ride and back to the truck without any injuries or crashes and I did enjoy it.
We loaded the bikes up into the track and went into town to a brewery. I texted Pam and Craig to let them know we were safely off the trail and to see if they wanted to join us, but they had just eaten and Craig was off fishing.
When I asked Pam how Bella was doing she said, she misses you and is waiting for your return and she sent this picture.
We went to Pour Authority. Cute name for a brewery. We had a flight of beers with four different IPAs for Rob and a Porter and Stout for me. We also had a cheese, and fruit platter as well as a pub pretzel. It was all pretty yummy.
They had a fun “Tap-Tree” in there. What is a “tap-tree” you ask?!
We went back to the RV park and had a real nice Tri Tip dinner with Craig and Pam. We didn’t build a fire, but we did enjoy sitting out there by the lake for our last night there. We move on tomorrow.
