TUESDAY, 14 JULY 2020; ROAD TO THE SUN-GLACIER NATL' PARK

Tuesday, 14 July, Whitefish, MT

It's a beautiful morning.  Im so happy the rainy weather is gone. This is how I remember Montana to be.

Last night we made plans to go to Craig and Pams for breakfast at 8 and then we would go to Glacier National Park and to the "Road to the Sun"  They just opened it up yesterday.  It has been closed, we heard, because they were still putting guard rails up.  They take them down in the winter for snow removal apparently.  Anyway,
Pam texted us and asked if we could make it at 8:15 as she had over slept.  She's so cute.
We had bacon and eggs (my favorite) at their place.  They have a huge home in Rancho Cucamonga in California and then are our neighbors at the RV resort where they are in a 42' motor home.  When you are on the road it is very difficult to find places that can accommodate a rig that big.  So, they are using a neighbor's rig.  It is a 24' Sprinter, Class C-type vehicle.  It is quite an adjustment for them. Figuring out where she put things, the sleeping is small and tight, it is quite an adventure for them.  But they are dealing with it.
We headed out at about 10.  We all climbed into our new truck. Pam and I were in the back with two of the dogs, (first time i've been in the new truck) Bella was on her perch on the center consul.  I made a perch cover of about 4 layers of rubberized shelf lining for her so she wouldn't scratch up the leather and so it wouldn't be slippery.  Craig was up front with Marley.  The truck is beautiful.  We had sooooooo much room back there.  We had cup holders in front of us, our own air vents, plus two USB ports and some other type plugs and a regular 110v plug.  Additionally, the center back folded down for an additional armrest and cup holders.  It is a really beautiful truck.
Glacier Park is so beautiful.
It was really difficult to find places to pull over because the park is really crowded and because the truck is so big.  Especially the fact that it is a duelly makes it to wide for most spots.

But we did get to find a place once in a while so we could get out, walk around and get some pictures
There are so many waterfalls in the park.  Some are right along the road, some are off in the distance, and some are actually falling on the road.

There is still quite a bit of snow in the park.  It must have been a pretty good winter.  Plus the recent storms have been cold enough to dump  some snow in the higher elevations.
We were lucky enough to come upon some Sheep foraging in the snow.

We drove up to the visitors' center, but there was no place to park and a really long line to the bathrooms.  Rob let Craig, Pam and I out with the dogs while he made another pass through the parking lot.
There were beautiful wild flowers everywhere. And streams in abundance.  So beautiful.
We headed on back out of the park.  The East entrance is closed because you have to go through an Indian Reservation and all the reservations are closed due to the virus.
Just outside the park we stopped in at a burger joint that advertised Elk burgers.  That's what Rob wanted.  He said it tasted like a regular hamburger.  The rest of us just had regular burgers.  They were yummy.
When we got back to the RV park I stitched up a tear in the driver's seat on our old truck.  While at it I decided I might as well stitch up the tear in the Jeep's driver seat.
Rob and Craig brought the new truck around to see how it was going to connect to our 5th wheel.  All seemed well.  Rob put all the junk from the old truck into the new truck.  Then we drove both trucks to Kalispell.
Lawrence is going to sell the old truck for us so we delivered it to his place.  We got to meet his fiancé Blair, her little 5 year old son and her brother Andrew.  We visited with them for a while.  She turns out to be from Camino, CA which is near Placerville which is just up the road from Cameron Park where I had my house and where Rob and I first got together.  Small world.  We had a nice visit with them.
While there we finally made reservations for a pontoon/patio boat that we (Rob, Craig, Pam, the dogs and I) want to go out on tomorrow.  We decided that Andrew, Misha, and Lawrence will go out on it as well and we will drop them off on the other side of the lake where they will meet Blair for dinner at a friends.  That will be awesome.  He will show us all kinds of cool spots on the lake.
We returned to the RV park and walked over to Craig and Pam's, then the 4 of us walked in to downtown Whitefish to Casey's for dinner. It is only about a mile or so away.  It was a pleasant walk.
We sat inside Caseys, but the walls were all open to the outside.  It was nice.  Good food, good company.
We walked back to the RV park and were once again shocked to discover it was 10 pm.  Crazy!
