Sunday, 1 January 2017, San Diego to RCRVR

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! I HOPE 2017 BRINGS YOU ALL GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!!!
Sadly, we received an email from Candice who is handling our lot rental.  She informed us that the Smeeds, who are going to be renting our lot for the winter, were in a horrible accident.  They totaled their RV and were in the hospital.  WHAT????
I finally got ahold of Judy and found out that yes indeed, they were involved in the 30-car pile-up on I-5/99 on New Year's Eve morning.  Their RV was totaled.  Dave had to be cut out of it but was ok.  Donna suffered a cracked Sternum (breast bone) cracked ribs and a bruised lung. They were also doing a CT scan of her neck to see if she had any injuries.  Their dog, Bandit was unharmed and spent the night with one of the Emergency Responders. Oh my God, how horrible, what a way to start the new year.
Rob and I slept in and then got up and walked down to a coffee shop.  Bella of course needed the walk so coffee was a good destination.
They were setting up the room where the Mascaraed Ball was for a giant Sunday Brunch.  It looked and smelled wonderful. But, we did not wish to partake.
We went back to our room and enjoyed our coffee.  We did get a bit hungry so walked down to Panera's and got a couple breakfast bagels and a yummy cinnamon crunch Bagel with cream cheese for the road.
We decided we were going to eat there, but as we were waiting it was really chilly so we asked them to make them to go and headed back to the room.
We enjoyed the sandwiches and then packed up and hit the road.
We headed back to Temecula.  The Raiders are playing again today and it is being televised.  This is the first game without Carr and it will determine their placement in the playoffs.  We were trying to decide if we wanted to watch it at home or at the sports bar.  I thought the bar would be a lot of fun because there are lots of Raiders fans.  But it would also be very noisy for Bella.
As it turned out, we went home.  We unpacked and put all our clothes and stuff away.
Rob made a smoothie and we gathered drinks and snacks and then headed over to our lot to watch it outside with our fire table and patio heater.  We got all settled in and were soon becoming very disappointed.  The Broncos are a very good team even without Payton Manning who retired at the end of last year.  The Raiders on the other hand are seriously hurting without Derek Carr.  Matt McGloin who was in for Carr got hurt during the second quarter.  But the Broncos had already scored 17 points.  The second half wasn't much better and CBS switched away from that game to a "more competitive" game of the Kansas City Chiefs Vs San Diego Chargers.  Ummm not especially competitive.  The Chiefs kicked their butts.  That was a double painful night.  We wanted the Raiders to win, of course, but we also needed the Chiefs to lose to clench the Raiders into the playoffs.  Unfortunately that was not the outcome.  Now the poor Raiders are really going to have to get it together.
The good news, though, is that Derek had his surgery and there is no ligament damage involved, only the bone, so, his healing time will be much better. That is good.
After the game we came back to our rig.  Neither of us were especially hungry so we just had left overs.  After that we played wii golf and bowling, archery and another dumb one where you try to knock each other off the platform.  It is fun entertainment.
We went to bed early
Happy New Year Everyone!
