Friday, 23 June; Crosby to Duluth

We had new neighbors move in right next door to us while we were gone yesterday.  When we got back last night they were sitting our by their fire (wood fire) chatting and all their smoke was coming in our rig.  We closed all the windows we could, but I need the windows at our bed open.  So, it was a smokey night.
For only that reason I am glad we are leaving today.  It really is a cute little town, lovely park and awesome mountain biking.  But, I am also excited to go to Duluth.  We will be staying at a marina.  The marina park in Reno is awesome, maybe this one will be cool as well.
We packed everything up and hit the road.  As usual, we were on the road between 10 and 10:30.  It is about a 2 hour drive.
The drive was pretty, very flat with tons of foliage.  It really reminds me of Mississippi or Alabama. But, as we came over the hill and saw Duluth everything changed.  Especially once we saw Lake Superior.  Oh My it is like being at the ocean, with out the waves.  It goes on forever!
I found our place pretty easily. I checked us in and then went in to find our place.  Rob was about 10 min away.  There was a man getting ready to hook up, back up, turn around and head out.  It would be a race to see who was going to make the other wait, him or Rob.  As it turned out, Rob had to wait on the street.
He came in and we quickly set everything up.  Then we left.
We drove up north to Gooseberry State Park and to Gooseberry Falls.
We went to the Visitor's Center and then walked a short path down to the Lower Falls.  It was awesome.

Although it is cautioned against swimming, there are some pretty cool swimming hole and lots of people were swimming or wading or generally playing in the water.
We went back to the visitor center to fill up our water then headed out on the trail.  There are 5 sets of falls and we must go find them!!!
The falls are all so pretty!  The trail took us across a cool bridge over the water and under the freeway.

And then through the woods.

Some of the trail was planked.  It gets a lot of snow here and more than likely a ton of mud when it melts.

It followed the river in some places and through the woods in others

 We crossed a couple bridges
And came upon several benches.  I tried them all out!

We even found a shelter; perhaps to wait out the storms or get away from the lightning or to warm up in.

We found the 5th falls and then headed back to the visitor center and the car.
From there we drove through part of the park and down to the shore of Lake Superior.

We wandered around there for a bit.  The water is icy cold.  Way colder that Tahoe.

But pretty and clear

And it goes on forever!

We left the park and headed back to town.  We stopped at a CVS so I could get some Benadryl.  I have at least 20 mosquito bites and they are itching and driving me crazy.  After that we went to Fitgers Brewery for a beer and dinner.  I had their Friday nigh special which was fish and chips. It was really good.
After dinner we drove back to our Marina spot.  The RV place is totally full now.
We went straight to bed.
