We sat outside and enjoyed our coffee, but quickly decided to pack everything up. I had done some of the inside before I went to bed last night and a little more inside when I first got up.
By 10am we were on the road. Rob headed over to the dump station and Bella and I went to the office to turn in our gate remote and to see if we could get a refund since we are leaving 3 days early.
On the way we saw a big Egret (I think, looks an awful lot like an eagle but it is smaller) in the field eating something it caught. We stopped and watched a bit. Bella was standing in the window trembling.
We went on to the office and waited for our bid $15.00 refund. You pay up front and they will only give you half of the remaining back. Oh well, it's an RPI so it was only $10. per night and we only lost $15.
We waited at the for Rob to finish dumping and come by. He had given me his credit card for the refund and I wanted to get it back to him. So at 10:20 we were heading down the road. I had to stop in Hinkley to drop the movies off, but other than that it was a nice 1 hour 45 min. drive. Pretty, pretty country.
Crosby is one of the little towns near Chuck and Laurie's cabin. In fact, they are headed back to their cabin tomorrow so we will get together for dinner tomorrow night.
We got to Crosby Memorial Park about 12:30. Rob arrived ahead of me and was already parked when I arrived. A man across the way helped guide him in.
We set up camp rather quickly and then went out for a walk about. We are right on Serpent Lake. We have a nice spot, although it is a bit close to the road, but it is all nice grass and not very crowded at all.
There are 20 RV spots and there is no one on our side between us and the lake and there are only 3 on the other side.
After our walk about we went to the baseball field that is right next door to us and threw the ball for Bella. The idea is to get her good and tired out so that we can go on a mountain bike ride without her and without here getting to upset about us leaving her.
It is one thing to take her for a bike ride in my basket when the trail is smooth dirt or paved and quite another to take her mountain biking.
As you may recall, the MB trails here in Crosby are rated #1 in all of Minnesota and #11 in the Nation. And they were a blast. A bit nerve-wracking though. I came upon a runner who I almost ran over, and then I came upon a couple bikers that I almost ran into. I have a very obnoxious bell on my bike so luckily people can hear me coming. I can silence it, but not when we are on two-way, single-track trails.
Any way, the trails were red dirt single track through the woods, along lakes, through greenery with twists and turns and climbs and descents.
We did a walk about to check the place out. There are a couple of playgrounds for children and one for Tots. There are tent camping places, a boat ramp and a nice sandy beach. We found the following as we walked about:
| A memorial to "All" who served |
| this cute Serpent because that is the name of the Lake. |

We rode out from our camp site along the road to the trail head. On the way back we rode down main street to check it out.
It is a small but cute town. They had a brewpub so we stopped in for a glass. They had pretzels on the menu and it turns out that you call the pub down the road and they make them and deliver them to you at this brewery, so we did. It took forever, but he finally delivered it. It came with a cheese dipping sauce, a honey mustard, and a garlic infused olive oil. The sauces and beer were great, the pretzel was a bit stale.
We rode the rest of the way home and Bella was very happy to see us.
We sat outside for a little while but it started to cool off and get a bit windy so we went in. We ate some left overs and watched TV.
I was really feeling beat, so I went to bed before 9 pm even. It wasn't even dark yet. It doesn't seem to get dark here until 9:50 ish. Of course this is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, so it will start getting darker sooner now.
Any way just before it actually did get dark, and as I was falling asleep a man came calling on us. It turned out to be the Police. They were informing all of us campers that a big nasty storm was coming with lightning, winds and hail. He just wanted us to be aware.
I got up and Rob and I put the 4 tomato and 1 basil plant (yes I am traveling with plants again) under the slide out so they wouldn't be shredded by the hail. Then I went back to bed.
Apparently the storm was north of us and never really happened here.
Rob took some nice pictures of the pretty sky before going to bed.
